Tupelo-Serita Shumpert was born to Mattie Sue Cummings and the late Robert Hamilton Sr. on March 29, 1959 in Tupelo, Miss. She went home to heavenly rest on September 5, 2021 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi. She proved to be a fighter throughout life and even more so as she struggled with her health. Serita retired as an assistant teaching within the Tupelo Public School System. At an early age, Serita became a member of New Providence Church in Tupelo, Mississippi. Later she moved her membership to I.C.B.C. She saw the need to worship and served God as a faithful member.
Serita leaves behind to cherish the memories of her life a daughter, Sanitra (Pooh) Shumpert of Tupelo, a special friend Keith Howard, one sister Debra Ford of Tupelo, one brother, Tommy Jake Ruff of Tupelo, one aunt, Betty Ruff of Chicago, IL., three nieces, Monica Ruff, Shalita Ford, Jazzy Ruff, one step sister, Keisha Cummings, two Nephews Austin Poole and Tashaun Currie and Mother-in-law Lou Shumpert.
Serita was preceded in death by her husband Eddie Shumpert, her mother Sue Cummings and father Robert Hamilton Sr., one sister Tammy W. Ruff, one brother Robert Hamilton Jr. and a host of aunts and uncles.
A service celebrating the life of Serita will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Inspirational Community Baptist Church in Tupelo with Rev. Lesley Mabry officiating. Burial will follow at Porter Memorial Cemetery in Tupelo. Holland Funeral Directors is honored to be serving their friends.
Pallbearers will be Yusus Nurredinn, Kortney Depriest, Keven Howard, Fred Shumpert, Kevon Howard and Jamale McClendon.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time Saturday only at the church.
