William "Bill" Joseph Tomason

May 17, 1936 ~ May 5, 2019 (age 82)

Nettleton – Mr. William Joseph “Bill” Tomason, age 82, died peacefully Sunday, May 5, 2019, at his residence following an extended illness.  He was born in Morris, Minnesota on May 17, 1936 to William Lacey Tomason and Lucy Erma Karanda Tomason.  He was patriotic serving in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958.  Bill worked many years as a carpenter, being self-employed.  He married Doris Laverne Jenkins, January 20, 2007 in Gattman, MS.  He attended Bethel Baptist Church, Nettleton, MS.  His hobbies included restoring and working on old cars, his favorite being his 1963 Super Sports Chevy that he would take to car shows everywhere.  He also liked antiques of all kinds. 

A celebration of life service will be Wednesday, May 8, 2019 in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Tim Barber and Bro. Jackie Pate officiating.  A graveside service will follow in Jones Chapel Cemetery at Nettleton.  Visitation will be today (Tuesday) from 4 PM – 8 PM and Wednesday from 12 noon to service time.

Survivors include his wife, Laverne Tomason of Nettleton; sons, William J. Tomason, Jr. (Charlene Hadaway) of Amory, Jackie Pate (Patricia), and Tony Pate, all of Nettleton; daughters, Wanda Wages (David) of Pontotoc, and Penny Barber (Tim) of Nettleton; brother, Robert “Bob” Tomason (Pat) of Nettleton; 11 grandchildren, Brandy, Leslie, Michael, Brandon, Angel, Megan, Andrew, Justin, Robbie, Tifany, and Sarah Grace; 20 great-grandchildren, Destiny, Jayden, Dalton, Austin, Parker, Gavin, Johnson, Brayden, Branson, Karen, Brooklyn, Mackenzie, Melissa, Alex, Kane, Xavier, Maggie, Tyler, Scarlett, and Gemma, who all affectionately call him “Papa Bill”.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 4 sister, 1 grandson, TJ Barber, and 1 great-grandson, Zander Pate.

Pallbearers will be Justin Pate, Robbie Pate, Michael Wages, Brandon Wages, Austin Wages, and Andrew Pate.  Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Gable, Mike Sheffield, and Dan Strummer.

Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  Condolences to the family may be posted at hollandfuneraldirectors.com.  The service may viewed Wednesday at 2 PM and for 60 days following at hollandfuneraldirectors.com/livestream.
