Tupelo – Mrs. Viola Yetter Owen, age 95, died Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at North MS Medical Center following a long fruitful life. She was born August 21, 1923 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Carl and Mamie Warrenburg Yetter. She grew up in Indianapolis, IN where she graduated high school. She and her husband, William H. Owen (who died May 21, 1977), moved to Tupelo from Indiana over 60 years ago, making it their home. She worked as Office Manager employed by Mac’s Tire Center for many years before retiring. Viola enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, and trout fishing. She was a long-time member of Harrisburg Baptist Church.
A celebration of life service will be at 11 AM, Friday, March 15, 2019 in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Danny Horton and Ronnie Hester officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be today (Thurs.) from 5 PM – 7 PM and Friday from 10 AM to service time.
Survivors include her two sons, Billy Owen (Pam) of Tupelo and Bruce Owen (Donna) of Saltillo; daughter, Susan Hester (Ronnie) of Tupelo; sister, Anna Mae Shaw of Indianapolis, IN; 7 grandchildren, Jessica Austin (Brian), Mary Elizabeth Owen (Tim), Laura Logan (Jamison), Christopher Hester (Tasha), Courtney McGee (Shane), Col. Curtis Pitts, and BethAnn Williams (Brooks) and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Owen and grandson, Will Owen.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Hester, Shane McGee, Brian Austin, Tim Kinard, Jamison Logan, and Col. Curtis Pitts. Honorary pallbearers will be John Bucy Long and Baylor Williams.
