MOOREVILLE - Shirley Mae “Granny” Thomas, 89, died Thursday, May 16, 2019, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born April 8, 1930, in Chicago to the late Noah and Carrie Smith Burns. Shirley was married to Robert N. Thomas Sr on July 23, 1949, until his death in 2010.
She started her working career at Jim’s Place where she met the love of her life. They were happily married for 61 years. Shirley worked at Plough in Memphis for a number of years until retiring and moving to Mooreville where she became a real estate agent with TRI, Inc. Realty.
An avid antique glass collector and a Grand Master Bridge player, her favorite hobbies when she was younger were traveling, bowling, and making sure her nails were perfect.
A Service celebrating her life will be held at 3 PM Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with guest speakers Sue Thomas and Julie Ward. Private burial will be in Red Hill Cemetery in Sherman. Visitation will be from 1 PM-service time Sat. only at Holland-Tupelo Chapel.
Survivors include one daughter Pamela T. Sorrows (Jimmy), of Kathleen, Ga, two sons, Robert N. Thomas Jr. (Suzanne) and Daniel L. Thomas (Marthe) all of Saltillo; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Easterling of Saltillo and Wilma Burns of Bartlett, TN and a brother in law, Frank Wakefield of Sardis; 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Fern Dunlap, Wanda Wakefield and Joyce Crouch; two brothers, Roy and James Burns.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
