Robert Gene Whitt

January 11, 1944 ~ March 27, 2019 (age 75)

Mr. Robert “Gene” Whitt, 75, died Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at his residence.  He was born January 11, 1944 in Egypt, MS to Robert Whitt and Ophelia Rushing Whitt.  He was a 1961 graduate of Okolona High School and married his graduating sweetheart, June Dallas the same year.  Gene owned and operated several stores during his career including Whitt’s One Stop Convenient Store.  He was a dedicated family man who cared for his family and loved playing with the great-grandkids.  He was a spiritual man who saw good in everyone, never seeing bad, and always had a smile on his face.  He was taught to tithe as a young man and continued until his death.  He was a member of Union Chapel Baptist Church.

A celebration of life service will be at 2 PM, Friday, March 29, 2019 in the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Rick Ball officiating.  Private burial will follow in Union Chapel Baptist Church cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday from 12 noon to service time only.  Condolences to the family may be posted at hollandfuneraldirectors.com.

Survivors include his beloved wife, June Whitt of Okolona; brother, John Earl Whitt of Athens, AL; sister, Hettie Ruth Whitt of N.C.; 2 granddaughters, Amanda Pennington (Jamie) of Vernon, AL and Amy Price of Okolona; 4 great-grandchildren, Destini Holliday, Alexis Pennington, Alanna Pennington, and Jacob Holliday; mother-in-law, Lillie Mae Dallas of Okolona, and a host of other dear relatives.  He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Joseph “Robby” Whitt and daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Price.

Pallbearers will be David Cochran, Jamie Pennington, Justin Holliday, Danny Johnson, Alan Stokes, Kenneth Whitt, and Robbie Whitt.
