Robbie Earl Lemmons, 72, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2019 at North Miss. Medical Center after a long struggle with cancer. Born in Tupelo on September 26, l946 to the late Oren Horace and Mary Kathering Bowles Lemmons, Robbie grew up in Verona and graduated from Tupelo High School in l964 where he was a standout athlete and basketball star. He played basketball at ICC and completed his formal education at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. Robbie spent over 30 years of his adult life as a resident of Baton Rouge, LA. where he was employed by Industrial Electric Motor Company retiring as Sales Manager. Robbie loved life and living even admit his health problems. He was an outstanding world class golfer and fulfilled his dreams of playing on the Master’s course at Agusta, Ga and St. Andrew’s in Scotland. He loved his family and his buddies, was a master story teller and conversationalist shade tree historian, especially on family heritage matters. He greatly enjoyed travel golfing on premier golf courses around the Country. The mountains were among his favorite places to travel. Robbie lived with zeal and zest until the very end and attack life each day with gusto and joy. He remained a member of the Verona United Methodist Church, his childhood church, the whole of his life.
A service celebrating his life will be held at 2 PM Today (Sunday, 2/3/19) at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Rev. Will Rambo officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Verona City Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon-service time today at Holland-Tupelo Chapel, which is honored to be serving their friends. Robbie leaves behind his daughter, Michelle Lemmons Riley of Tupelo and his son, Lee Lemmons of Saltillo. A step son, Timmy Wintz (Nicole) of Sunshine, LA. His grandchildren, Taylor Riley, Allie Wintz and Austin Wentz. His sisters, Sue Lemmons Goggans of Tupelo and Kathleen Lemmons Armstrong (Leon) of Brewer. His brother, Horace “Bud” Lemmons (Stephanie) of Evergreen. Numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Betty Hammock, a brother, Henry Lemmons and a special aunt, Grace Lemmons.
Pallbearers will be Timmy Wintz, Austin Wintz, Tommy Armstrong, Nick Armstrong, David Goggans and Roger Goggans. Honorary pallbearers will be James Sample, Dick Daugherty, Jack Phipps, Guy Watts, Charles Gillentine, Jerry Celielski and his work buddy, Tim.
