Furrs Community – Mrs. Mary Alice Holcomb Montgomery, 78, died peacefully in her sleep while surrounded by her family, Sunday, May 12, 2019 at the Leeper House, Methodist Senior Services, Tupelo Campus. She was born December 27, 1940 in the Longview Community of Pontotoc Co., MS, to Marvin Holcomb and Mary Wilder Holcomb. Mary Alice was a 1959 graduate of Pontotoc High School and studied at Itawamba Junior College (ICC). She married James E. Montgomery on November 30, 1960. She graduated Tupelo Cosmetology School, received her Cosmetology License, and owned a beauty salon during her younger adult years. After becoming a Mother, she decided to be a full-time homemaker, raising her babies. Later in her adult years, she worked as a bookkeeper side by side with her husband, James in the family businesses, Montgomery Floors and The Meadows Golf Course. She was a longtime active member of Furrs Baptist Church, along with her family.
Mary Alice’s greatest joy was her grandkids who lovingly called her Nana. She was a fabulous cook. She was looking forward to visiting with her classmates at her 60th class reunion in June.
A celebration of life service will be at 4 PM Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Furrs Baptist Church with Bro. Bobby Caples, Bro. Steve Cohea, and Bro. Gary Pettit officiating. Private burial will follow in Pontotoc Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be today from 2 PM – service time, all at the church.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, James E. Montgomery; 3 daughters, Alicia Todd (Randy), Monte Harris (Terry), and Greta McMullan (Carey), all of Furrs Community; grandchildren, Allison Forman (Jacob), Audrey Gentry (Adam), Jeb Todd, Courtney McGaha (Joseph), Jordan Harris, Aiden Harris, and Grace McMullan; great-grandchildren, Hank, Lainey, Jackson, Jon Spencer, and Calla; a host of nieces, nephews and other dear relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margaret Holcomb Bass and brother, George Robert Holcomb.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Jeb Todd, Jacob Forman, Adam Gentry, Aiden Harris, Jordan Harris, Joseph McGaha, and nephew, Greg Holcomb.
