Joyce Miller

December 27, 1934 ~ June 21, 2019 (age 84)

Birmingham Ridge-Mrs. Joyce Ann Winders Miller, 84, met her Creator after a very brief illness on Friday, June 21, 2019.  A lifelong Lee Countian, Joyce was born on December 27, l934 to the late Atlas Weldon “Dudie” Winders  and Lorraine Pennington Winders.  Joyce graduated from Tupelo High School in l952 where she was a standout basketball player.  After graduation, she  worked several years for AT and T.  She married the love of her life, Horace Milton “Mutt” Miller on March 31, 1956 in Lee County celebrating 63 years of marriage until his death on March 29, 2019.  Joyce was known as a fiercely determined and courageous lady who overcame many physical obstacles throughout her life.  She always had a big smile no matter the circumstances.    A master homemaker, she had a sharp, analytical mind which she kept keen by reading 2-3 books per week from the Lee County Bookmobile and solving crossword puzzles daily.  Joyce was a avid sports fan and watching her favorite teams on television. Joyce and Horace were landowners and lifelong residents of the Birmingham Ridge Community.  They attended Birmingham Ridge Baptist Church. Affectionately known as Mama Joyce, her children and grandchildren were the jewels of her crown and her greatest accomplishments She loved her family with her whole heart and will sorely missed by family and friends.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 PM Sunday, June 23, 2019 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with her cousin, Bro. Tommy Winders officiating.  Private burial will follow in McNeil Cemetery.  Visitation will be from Noon-service time Sunday only at Holland-Tupelo Chapel, which is honored to be serving their friends.

Joyce leaves behind her son, Bradley Ecford “Brad” Miller and his wife, Sherry and daughter, Susan Miller Cole and her husband, Nelson all of Saltillo; four grandchildren, Meredith Miller Sessums (Robert), Emily Miller Brandon (Toby), Casey Cole and Miller Cole. A brother, Billy Winders of Tupelo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mutt, an infant son and her parents.

Memorials may be made to Sanctuary Hospice House, P. O. Box 2177, Tupelo, MS. 38802 and to the Lee County Library Bookmobile Progarm, 219 Norht Madison, Tupelo, MS. 38801  The service may be viewed via at 2 PM Sunday and for 90 days thereafter.
