Tupelo – Mr. John Robert Smith, 85, joined his lovely wife Phyllis on November 22, 2018 following a short illness. He was born in Fireco, West Virginia on February 8, 1933 to Orvin and Anna Elizabeth Schneppe Smith. He was patriotic and honored his country by serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked many years as a nuclear engineer for Bechtel Corporation. After retirement John free-lanced as a port inspector. John distinguished himself as a Master Mason and member of Masonic Lodge #142. It is fitting the Masons now honor him as he is laid to rest. He was of the Lutheran faith and was responsible for the building of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Prince Frederick, Maryland. John's most enduring quality was devotion to his family, and his sacrifice and commitment to them cannot be measured. He was quiet in life but loud on the golf course. He had a kind and compassionate soul and a heart as wide as the Heavens. He was truly a Gentleman and a gentle man and will be missed forever.
A graveside service with Masonic Rites will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday, November 30, 2018 at Booneville Cemetery. Visitation will be THURSDAY FROM 5PM to 7PM at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors. Condolences to the family may be posted at hollandfuneraldirectors.com.
