Shannon – Mr. James Homan, 83, died Saturday, October 6, 2018 at his residence surrounded by family. He was born April 27, 1935 in Pontotoc County, MS to Murphy Homan and Anna Mask Homan. At age 11 months, his mother, Anna died and he was raised by Ethel Homan. He was a graduate of Shannon High School and married Barbara Pannell on November 16, 1954. He worked all his life as a farmer raising cattle, horses, and crops. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. James was a member of the Pontotoc Masonic Lodge #81. He was Honorary Past Grand Master and former District Deputy Grand Lecturer. He was a member of Pontocola Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a fine man and friend to all.
His funeral service will be at 2 PM, Monday, October 8, 2018 in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Mark Cayson and Bro. Fred Hartley officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow at Pontocola Cemetery. Visitation will be today (Sunday) from 4 PM – 7 PM and Monday from 1 PM to service time. Survivors include his wife of almost 64 years, Barbara Homan of Shannon; two sons, Donnie Homan (Vicki) and Perry Homan (Vonnie), all of Shannon; one daughter, Angie West (Joseph) of Shannon; five grandchildren, Anna West (Bill), Josh West (Jill), Bud Homan (Lauren), Luke West, and Cassie Homan; seven great-grandchildren, Mark, Heidi and Lyla West, Clay, Micah, and Rosie West, and Vance Homan; a host of other dear extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Bud Homan, Josh West, Luke West, Bill West, Cole Mask, Blake Galloway, and Freddie Duran. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Pontotoc Masonic Lodge #81.
