TUPELO – Francis Wortham Criss, Jr., 88, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2019, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness.
Services will be held at 2 PM on Friday, Dec. 27, 2019 at All Saints’ Episcopal Church. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Holland Funeral Directors – Tupelo Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Francis was born Jan. 10, 1931, in Lexington, to Julia McRae and Francis W. Criss, Sr. He was a graduate of John Rundle High School, in Grenada, and a jet fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force, where he flew an F-860 jet. He graduated from the University of Mississippi with a degree in accountancy, and later opened Criss & Criss Accounting Firm, in Grenada, with his three younger brothers. Criss served several years on the Grenada City Council and later became City Manager, a position he held for a number of years. He retired as Chief Financial Officer of Choctaw Maid Farms in Carthage, after 17 years of service.
An Episcopalian, Francis served for a time as treasurer of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Corinth, and All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Tupelo. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Francis was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ann Renee Dial Criss, his parents, and his three brothers, John Criss, Jim Criss, and Bob Criss.
Survivors include two daughters, Leslie Criss (Cheryl) of Tupelo, and Beth Criss Cook (Tim) of Huntsville, AL; a granddaughter, Bailey Elizabeth Cook of Huntsville, AL; and multiple nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved Golden Retriever, Jake.
