Tupelo/Baldwyn-Maury Dewayne McKinney, 64, met his Creator on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 from the Baldwyn Nursing Home in Baldwyn where he had resided almost 8 years. Born August 23, 1954 in Tupelo to Maury Milford McKinney and Lonnie Louise Shumpert McKinney, he graduated from Mooreville High School in 1973. He worked in Ambassador Services at the North Mississippi Medical Center for over 13 years before his health failed. He was a member of the Boguefala Baptist Church in Mooreville. Dewayne had a sterling voice, loved to sing and attend Southern gospel singings all his life. He also loved to bowl.
A service celebrating his life will be held at 3 PM today (Friday, April 26, 2019) at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. David Perry officiating. Private burial will follow in Boguefala Cemetery in Mooreville. Visitation will be from 1 PM-service time today at Holland-Tupelo Chapel, which is honored to be serving their friends.
Dewayne is survived by his 3 sisters, Bobbie Greenlee of Rutledge, TN, Brenda Copland of Harselle, Ala. and Linda Jones and her husband, Berdell of Tupelo. 1 brother, Charles “Pete” McKinney and his wife, Joyce of Nettleton. A sister in law, Marie McKinney of New Albany. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Roy Allen McKinney and a brother in law, J. T. Copeland.
Pallbearers will be family members; nephews and cousins. Memorials may be made to Boguefala Baptist Church Building Fund, 1065 Rd 1409, Mooreville, MS. 38857.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the excellent care the staff of Baldwyn Nursing Home gave their brother over 8 years. To further express their appreciation, all past and present staff of the Baldwyn Nursing Home will service as honorary pallbearers.
