Carolyn Ann Weeks

August 31, 1943 ~ June 5, 2019 (age 75)

Plantersville-Carolyn Ann Towery Weeks, 75, fulfilled the promises of her Lord and Savior and met him face to face on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 while at the Meadows in Fulton for Rehab. Carolyn, a forever Plantersville citizen, was born the only child on August 31, l943 to the late Joe Harris Towery, who was killed shortly after her birth while actively serving his country in World War II in Europe and Emma Lucille Nichols Towery. Carolyn grew up in Plantersville, received her education there and graduated from Shannon High School in l961. She married her boyfriend, Glenell “Glen” Weeks on November 17, 1961 at the Plantersville UMC.  Because of her early love for children, Carolyn attended ICC and Mississippi State where she received her degree in Elementary Education -later receiving her Masters from State.  She spent over 35 years as an elementary education teacher in the Tupelo Public Schools and, most of her career, at Plantersville School where she retired in l996 as a beloved and revered 1st grade teacher.  Carolyn naturally gravitated to children; her students, the youth of her Church, her own children and grandchildren.  She had a kindness and trust that was her hallmark and, while compassionate and always concerned; her independent streak proved she meant business in the classroom. She always fought for the underdog and had the privilege to teach many special education students along the way.  A longtime faithful and active member of the First Baptist Church-Plantersville until her health began to fail a decade ago, Carolyn was a student of the Bible and a practitioner of her faith anywhere she was.   She was a master cook, especially known for homemade cookies and fried chicken, and loved to share large gatherings with family and friends. An animal lover, she revered her poodles.  Her greatest contribution was following the greatest Commandment-Love God first and love your neighbor as yourself.  Her generosity of spirit, her love of God and family and her leading others to Christ will be her legacy.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 PM Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with her pastor, Bro. Danny Balint and Bro. Terry Paul Graham officiating.

Sissy Griffin will deliver the eulogy.  Private burial will follow in the Towery Family Plot at Plantersville Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 PM-7PM today (Fri) and from Noon-service time on Sat., all at Holland-Tupelo Chapel which is honored to be serving their neighbors and friends.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Glenell “Glen” Weeks of Plantersville; three daughters, Kim Weeks Suggs and husband, Tom of Murfreesboro, TN, Joanna Weeks Ellard and her husband, Keith of Cullman, Ala. and Susan Weeks Hicks and her husband, Phillip of Mooreville;  Mimi’s grandchildren, Glenn Suggs (Heather), Katie Suggs Taylor (Christian), Kirsten (KC) Ellard Dickerson, Corbin Ellard, Lauren Hicks, Tucker Hicks and Carson Hicks. 3 great grandchildren, Hawkins Suggs, Emery Daye Suggs and Bryce Dickerson.
